My father was a career government employee, first in the military and then with civil service, so I grew up with Army posts, overseas assignments, and DoD schools. I attended the University of Maryland, College Park, and have lived in the Washington, DC metro area ever since.
I have a B.A. in English and a M.Ed. in Guidance and Counseling. I've spent my professional life with the federal government, the local school system, and National Geographic. Currently, I work with the Alfalfa Club. All that I learned from my professional positions helped me manage a household, raise three children, and be spoiled by eight grandchildren.
During a hospital stay, our 20-month-old grandchild suffered a medical misadventure. Our world shattered. Part of puzzling together the pieces to find our new normal was the need to act. We created Joey's Foundation to help improve the daily lives of children with brain injury.
